MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos will choose his first two justices from the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC)’s shortlist consisting of 13 nominees to fill the vacancies at the Court of Appeals (CA).

The Office of the Executive Secretary received last July 15 the July 8 letter of the JBC addressed to Marcos.

The JBC letter contained the names of the nominees for the two vacant associate justice positions at the appellate court.

Of the 13 nominees, 10 are Regional Trial Court (RTC) judges, two are private practitioners and one is from the Supreme Court (SC).

The list includes the names of Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 62 Judge Selma Alaras, Valenzuela City RTC Branch 283 Judge Snooky Maria Ana Bareno-Sagayo, private lawyer and law professor Amado Paolo Dimayuga and SC Deputy Clerk of Court Corazon Ferrer-Flores.

Also listed are Balanga, Bataan RTC Branch 92 Judge Gener Gito, Pasay City RTC Branch 111 Judge Wilhelmina Jorge-Wagan, Makati City RTC Branch 3 Judge Robert Victor Marcon, Mandaluyong City RTC Branch 281 Judge Ermin Ernest Louie Miguel, Manila City RTC Branch 41 Judge Rosalyn Mislos-Loja, Marikina City RTC Branch 165 Judge Acerey Pacheco, Manila City RTC Branch 55 Judge Josefina Siscar, private lawyer Romeo Targa and Pasay City RTC Branch 118 Judge Rowena Tan.

From the shortlist, the President will choose the replacements for CA Associate Justices Gabriel Ingles and Edgardo Camello, who compulsorily retired last Feb. 27 and May 19, respectively.

“Pursuant to Article VIII, Section 9 of the Constitution, the Judicial and Bar Council has the honor to submit the following nominations for two positions of Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals,” the JBC said.

The JBC officials are Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, who acts as the council’s ex-officio chairperson; Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, who is an ex-officio member of the Council; and members Jose Mendoza, Toribio Ilao Jr., Noel Tijam and Franklin Monteverde.
