MANILA, Philippines — Following former Japan prime minister Shinzo Abe’s assassination on Friday, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has given assurance that the country’s top and former leaders are secured and well-protected.
The military said the Presidential Security Group and the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group are there to ensure the safety and security of President Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte.
AFP spokesman Col. Medel Aguilar stressed that the military also provides additional security to the top leaders in places that they visit.
“It is for the units I mentioned to determine force requirements for the security operations. They are led by competent officers,” Aguilar said.
