MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang yesterday condoled with the family of author and journalist Carmen Pedrosa, who passed away last Wednesday.

“The Palace extends its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Carmen ‘Chit’ Pedrosa on her passing,” acting presidential spokesman Martin Andanar said in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of Ms. Pedrosa as they find strength in this period of mourning,” he added.

Andanar noted that Pedrosa served the Duterte administration as a member of the board of directors of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. She was appointed to the gaming regulator in 2016.

Pedrosa, who died at the age of 80, was a reporter for the now-defunct Manila Chronicle and assistant editor of Chronicle Magazine. She authored biographies of former first lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos, widow of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and mother of president-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Pedrosa, mother of broadcast journalist Veronica Pedrosa, wrote the weekly column From a Distance for The Philippine STAR from 1987 to 2019.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III also extended his condolences to the Pedrosa family, saying: “Ma’m Chit was a friend, I pray she finds eternal rest in the arms of our Lord.” – Delon Porcalla
