DAVAO CITY, Philippines — President Duterte will not like to miss the inaugural of his eldest daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio as she takes her oath as the 15th vice president of the country on June 19 here.
Preparations are reportedly in full swing for the attendance of the President at his daughter’s oath-taking at the San Pedro Square along the iconic San Pedro Street.
Security has been beefed up for the historic occasion that will see both father and daughter on the same stage.
June 19 also happens to be Father’s Day, which will mark the first time the two are seen together in public, especially after the campaign for the May 9 national and local elections.
Duterte’s attendance at the inaugural is expected to end months of speculations that the father and daughter are not on good terms.
Aside from the elder Duterte, also invited to Sara’s inaugural are president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo and all other past presidents and vice presidents.
Officials and other guests from Manila and other parts of the country are expected to attend Sara’s inaugural, aside from family and close kin. Her brother Sebastian, who is incoming mayor of Davao City, is expected to take his oath on June 22.
The President is also expected to attend Sebastian’s inaugural.
However, an official of the Presidential Communications Operations Office told Malacañang reporters that the President’s attendance at the event is “tentative.” – Helen Flores
