MANILA, Philippines — The United States’ number two diplomat, Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, will meet with president-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during her visit in Manila this week, the US Department of State announced.

Sherman will travel to South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam and Laos from June 5 to 14.

The State Department said Sherman’s travel to the region reflects the US’s continued commitment to the Indo-Pacific and follows the US-ASEAN Special Summit, President Biden’s visit to South Korea and Japan, the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Tokyo and the launch of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework.

“In Manila, Deputy Secretary Sherman will meet with president-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and senior members of the incoming and outgoing administrations to discuss new ways to deepen the bilateral US-Philippines Alliance,” the State Department said.

She will also participate in a business roundtable and an event in celebration of World Oceans Day.
