Tagle appointed to Vatican’s congregation for divine worship

MANILA, Philippines — Pope Francis has named former Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle as a member of the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

An article posted on Church-run Radyo Veritas’ website stated that the Vatican has made public Tagle’s appointment to the congregation on June 1 along with the announcement of other bishop-members to the congregation.

Tagle, prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, will be working with Cardinal-elect Archbishop Arthur Roche who heads the congregation.

Roche, one of the cardinals that will attend the consistory on Aug. 27, replaced Cardinal Robert Sarah who retired in May 2021.

The congregation will soon be renamed as the “Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments”  on June 5. 

Prior to his appointment to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Tagle has been head of the Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelizations.

Tagle is also a member of other congregations such as for Catholic Education; for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life; for Oriental Churches, Pontifical Councils and for Legislative Texts.

He is also a member of the congregations for Interreligious Dialogues; Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See; Cardinal Commission for the Supervision of the Institute for the Works of Religion, and Gran Chancellor of the Pontifical University Urbaniana.
