MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines ranked 75th out of 117 economies in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) for 2021 of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The report released yesterday showed the Philippines got a score of 3.7 in the index, which is an evolution of the WEF’s biennial Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report.
In the 2019 edition of the WEF’s Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report, the Philippines placed 73rd, with a score of 3.7.
WEF said the new index has enhanced focus on the sector’s overall role in economic and social development and the greater need for stakeholder collaboration and development strategies.
The index gives a score of one to seven, with one being the worst and seven being the best.
It has five sub-indexes, which are: enabling environment, travel and tourism policy and enabling conditions, infrastructure, travel and tourism demand drivers, and travel and tourism sustainability.
The Philippines ranked 87th in the enabling environment sub-index which covers business environment, safety and security, health and hygiene, human resources and labor market, and information communications technology readiness.
In the travel and tourism policy and enabling conditions sub-index covering prioritization of travel and tourism, international openness, and price competitiveness, the Philippines placed 61st.
As for the infrastructure sub-index covering air transport, ground and port and tourist service infrastructure, the Philippines placed 75th.
In terms of the travel and tourism demand drivers covering natural, cultural and non-leisure resources, the Philippines placed 35th.
As for the travel and tourism sustainability sub-index, the Philippines ranked 85th.
Overall, Japan topped the TTDI. The US came in second, followed by Spain in third place.
