MANILA, Philippines — It’s time to bring out your rain gear as PAGASA says monsoon season is here.

PAGASA said Wednesday that intermittent rains associated with the southwest monsoon or habagat will begin affecting Metro Manila and western sections of the country.

The state weather bureau declared this as the western parts of Luzon, Mindoro, Negros, Palawan and other parts of the country experienced widespread rains in the last five days due to the presence of a frontal system and severe thunderstorms.

In addition, it also observed southwesterly wind flow over the past few days.

PAGASA warned, however, that rainfall in some parts of the country may be beyond the normal range in the coming months due to the ongoing La Niña phenomenon. — Xave Gregorio
