MANILA, Philippines — Various groups in Northern Luzon backed yesterday the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo.

Thirty thousand members of Kumilos Ka Kabayan (KKK), Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte-Agila Region 1 and Ikaw Muna Pilipinas-Region 1 Chapter have declared their support for Robredo.

Northern Luzon is a known bailiwick of the family of presidential bet Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Among those who threw their support for the Vice President was Bauang, La Union Vice Mayor Henry Bacurnay Jr.

In a joint statement, the groups said they come together and set aside differences to prevent the return of the country to “a dark chapter” if Marcos is elected president.

“We believe that VP Leni has the platform of a clean, orderly and efficient leadership and will effectively serve the public,” they said in Filipino.

Robredo and her running mate Sen. Francis Pangilinan wooed voters in the Cordillera Administrative Region on Monday.

Earlier in the day, tribesmen butchered a wild boar as a sacrifice to their god Kabunyan to ward off bad spirits and to request blessings.

Before heading to the grand rally in Baguio dubbed “Takder Kordi, Ranniag Ti Namnama (Tindig Cordillera, a Ray of Hope),” Robredo held a meet and greet with Team Leni-Kiko Kalinga and Kalinga People’s Council in Tabuk City and with Abra Electric Cooperative and Abra for Leni in Bangued, Abra.

Robredo also received the endorsements of other local officials, including Surigao del Norte Gov. Francisco Matugas and Cavite 3rd District Rep. Alex Advincula.
