MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) yesterday assured the public that measures are being undertaken to control the ongoing dengue outbreak in Zamboanga City.

The DOH said it is closely coordinating with the Center of Health Development and the Zamboanga City local government in responding to the outbreak.

“Protocol according to the most recent epidemiological data, including preventive measures to stop the disease vector is being implemented,” the DOH noted.

Zamboanga City previously reported that dengue cases have exceeded the threshold for four consecutive weeks. From Jan. 1 to April 2, a total of 893 dengue cases, including 11 deaths, were recorded.

According to the DOH, there are dengue fast lanes and separate rooms in hospitals. Insecticide-treated curtains and screens, the DOH said, are also being used in health facilities.

The agency advised the public to be vigilant and clean their surroundings and destroy possible mosquito breeding sites.

Those experiencing symptoms of dengue, the DOH said, should immediately seek medical consultation.
