MANILA, Philippines — The number of overhauled MRT-3 wagons or train cars now stands at 50 with two already deployed and more to come, the Department of Transportation disclosed Friday.
In a statement sent to reporters, the DOTr said that Sumitomo, the line maintenance provider of the Metro Rail Transit-Line 3 in charge of the line's recently-concluded rehabilitation had 22 of the 72 wagons of MRT-3 still scheduled to be overhauled.

The DOTr added that it also deployed two more wagons, one in end-March and another on April 6, after undergoing a series of speed testing and quality checks.
As it currently stands, the MRT-3 can operate up to 21 train sets, including 19 three-car CKD train sets and two four-car CKD train sets.
The passenger capacity of the trains is at 100% with the equivalent of 394 passengers per train car or 1,182 per train set.
This comes amid the free rides program set to last until end-April with the exception of the scheduled maintenance shutdown from April 12 to 17. The rail line's management has also deployed four-car CKD train sets that can carry up to 1,576 passengers.
The DOTr reminded commuters that COVID-19 health and safety protocols are strictly enforced throughout the line, such as a ban on eating, drinking, talking on the phone, and speaking inside trains. The wearing of a face mask is also strictly enforced while the wearing of a face shield is voluntary.
