Monsour del Rosario now part of 1Sambayan senatorial slate

MANILA, Philippines — Opposition coalition 1Sambayan, which backs the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo, has endorsed the senatorial run of actor and athlete Monsour del Rosario for the 2022 elections. 

1Sambayan convenor and former Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio made the announcement on Friday during a media forum in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

This comes two weeks after Del Rosario shifted his support to Vice President Leni Robredo for president, explaining that her mission aligns with his goals of bringing "real positive change" in the lives of Filipinos. 

The former congressman used to be part of the senatorial slate of presidential aspirant Sen. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson and vice presidential bet Vicente "Tito" Sotto III, but left shortly after Lacson parted ways from Partido Reporma, his former political party last month. 

During his time as a public servant, Del Rosario authored the Republic Act 11165 or the Telecommuting Act which paved the way for alternative work arrangements for employees,

He joins ten other senatorial bets of the opposition coalition, namely: former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat; Bayan Muna Chairperson Neri Colmenares; human rights lawyer Chel Diokno; reelectionists Leila De Lima, Richard Gordon, Risa Hontiveros; labor leaders Elmer Labog and Sonny Matula; author Alex Lacson and former senator Sonny Trillanes. — Angelica Y.
