MANILA, Philippines — Leading senatorial candidate Loren Legarda pledged to prioritize the provision of livelihood and social services to poor communities, such as what she intended to render to marginalized households in Quezon province.

The three-term senator renewed her commitment to continuously support the province which she holds close to her heart.

“When I started in public service in 1998, the people of Quezon province did not hesitate to offer their support. I am so grateful to them, and to compensate their generosity, I will ensure that the province will not be left behind in terms of government assistance and programs,” Legarda said.

Through her initiative, the Deputy Speaker earlier laid the foundation for several economic and livelihood assistance programs in Quezon such as the fast-tracking of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay Sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Worker funding for the provincial government that specifically benefited the four legislative districts and the local government units of Lucena City, Gumaca, and Panukulan.

Legarda also sponsored additional funding support for the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to aid fisherfolk in Atimonan, Quezon.

Legarda also worked for the provision of skills training for the people of Quezon province by pushing for the budget allocation of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority’s (TESDA) Training for Work Scholarship Program, TESDA’s Special Training for Employment Program and DOLE’s Government Internship Program in Alabat, Atimonan, Calauag, Guinayangan and Gumaca, among others.

She also alloted funds for the construction of the Academic Building at Southern Luzon State University in Lucban, Infanta and Polillo.
