Moreno on EDSA: President’s powers come from the people
MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno joined in remembering the 36th year of the EDSA People Power Revolution by declaring that the president’s powers come from the people.
“I think it’s worth it for young people to know that the powers of the president come from the people. People are the ones that give, and people are the ones that can take back. I think that’s the most important lesson of the EDSA Revolution,” he said in Filipino and English.
People power must be recognized even by succeeding generations, who should be taught to avoid abusing power, the presidential aspirant said. “It’s only right that we continue to recognize this and pass on to future generations, to remind us not to abuse power,” Moreno said.
Meanwhile, vice presidential bet Dr. Willie Ong seemed to have moved on from the issue of his presidential candidate, Moreno, being paired with rival vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
In an online interview with GMA News journalist Malou Mangahas last Thursday, he said he and Moreno, both running under the banner of Aksyon Demokratiko, talked for two hours last Wednesday night.
“We spoke last (Wednesday) night for two hours. We’re OK now. I’m surprised that everything worked out for the best,” he said. “Whatever happens, happens. No bad feelings. Just go.”
