Isko Moreno confident of support from ‘silent majority’
MANILA, Philippines — Presidential aspirant Isko Moreno is confident he would win the support of the “silent majority” in the race to the presidency.
His campaign team has observed that the caravans of Aksyon Demokratiko national candidates have been drawing huge crowds.
Most spectators cheered as the convoy passed by, with many trying to reach Moreno’s hand, attempting fist bumps or handshakes.
Although there were some who violated health protocols, like the failure to wear a face mask, the crowd reaction has been encouraging for the Manila City mayor.
“That is why I continue to get encouraged. People, the silent majority, really go out of their houses to just get a glimpse of me,” he told reporters in Filipino and English before starting his caravan in Navotas City last Friday.
His team also released the results of a survey conducted by the app-based survey firm Tangere that showed he was second at 22 percent. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was leading with 54 percent.
Moreno, his running mate Dr. Willie Ong and senatorial bets Samira Gutoc, Jopet Sison and Carl Balita have visited the provinces of Rizal and Laguna, as well as the cities of Navotas, Malabon and Quezon City, after their proclamation rally in Manila last Feb. 8.
He previously called on the Commission on Elections to reconsider enforcing its rule banning candidates from taking photos with the public, as part of the poll body “new normal” regulations to curb the spread of COVID-19 during the campaign period.
