Gibo backs tandem vote for president, VP
MANILA, Philippines — Former defense secretary and senatorial candidate Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro has supported the resolution in the Senate for a single ticket system or tandem vote for president and vice president, as this will strengthen party politics in the country.
“The solution is not merely to have a vote for the president being the vote for the vice president, but also strengthening our political party system so people vote via bona fide parties and not on personalities solely,” Teodoro said during the CNN Philippines Senatorial Forum.
Teodoro, a former Tarlac congressman and the 1989 Bar topnotcher, said through strengthening of political party structures in the country, the policy agenda of the party will be promoted rather than personalities themselves.
Teodoro added that the single ticket system, at least for the top two national positions, will give a synergistic element in governance. “If you cannot generate that kind of synergy, then governance and progress for the country will be difficult to achieve,” he said.
Teodoro said his political affiliation is important in his bid for a Senate seat as his seven pillars and agenda need synergy from both the national and local government levels.
