MANILA, Philippines — Double pay awaits those who would opt to work today.

In an advisory, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded employers that Bonifacio Day is a regular holiday, thus workers who will report for work are entitled to extra pay.

Under the holiday pay rules, an employee shall be paid 200 percent of regular salary for the day, including the cost of living allowance (COLA) for the first eight hours of work.

Workers who will opt to enjoy the holiday and not report to work shall be paid their regular daily wage.

DOLE said an employee who will work in excess of eight hours shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate.

An employee who will report for work on the day that falls on his rest day shall get an additional 30 percent on top of the 200 percent pay.

Work in excess of eight hours during a regular holiday that also falls on the workers’ rest day shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate.

But DOLE noted that establishments that have closed or ceased operations during the community quarantine are exempted from the payment of holiday pay.
