MANILA, Philippines — There will be no extension of the Sept. 30 deadline for voters’ registration for the 2022 elections, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said yesterday.

“Sept. 30 is the deadline for registration. We won’t have extensions,” Guanzon said during the Social Action Network (SAN) good governance webinar series on voter’s registration.

At the forum, Guanzon also expressed hope the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) would be able to help the Comelec entice more registrants before the Sept. 30 deadline.

The PPCRV is a non-partisan election watchdog affiliated with the Catholic Church in the Philippines. It mobilizes its volunteers during elections to ensure free, fair and fraud-free polls. Guanzon thanked the PPCRV for its tireless efforts based largely on volunteerism.

In another development, the Comelec has earmarked more than P204 million for the procurement of 2,680 rolls of ballot paper and 1,946,900 pieces of marking pen that would be used for next year’s elections.

The Comelec said that interested parties may visit its office in Intramuros Manila to secure bid documents from the office of the Special Bids and Awards Committee.
