International flights to Mactan will still be diverted to NAIA until June 12
MANILA, Philippines — All international flights to Mactan-Cebu International Airport will continue to be diverted to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport until June 12, Malacañang announced Tuesday.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said in a June 5 order read out by presidential spokesperson Harry Roque during a press briefing that the extension is to ensure that quarantine and testing protocols mandated by the government’s pandemic task force “will be fully and seamlessly implemented.
Malacañang expects that Cebu will implement the national government’s quarantine and testing protocols by June 13.
The presidential palace earlier ordered all international flights going to Cebu to be diverted to Manila’s main international gateway after Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia bucked quarantine procedures mandated by the national government, deeming them to be “repressive” for Filipinos returning abroad.
