MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang condoled with the family of the late former press secretary, Manila Bulletin editor-in-chief and publisher Crispulo Icban Jr., who passed away on Monday. He was 86.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque Jr. and Communications Secretary Martin Andanar yesterday paid tribute to Icban for his valuable contribution to journalism in the country.
Although under quarantine, Andanar extended his sympathies to Icban’s family, loved ones and friends and paid tribute to the veteran journalist’s distinguished career.
Andanar noted how Icban played a pivotal role in the development of Philippine journalism.
“Rendering 47 years in Manila Bulletin, 18 years of which was spent as editor-in-chief, his works and presence have been a daily part of the lives of those in the industry and those who consume news and information,” he said.
“As someone who has had a distinguished career in and has devoted his life to journalism, Mr. Icban will be truly missed, especially by those who have been cultivated with his vocation. We pray for the eternal repose of his soul,” Andanar said.
