MANILA, Philippines — A new coalition – composed of retired magistrates, former Cabinet secretaries, religious leaders, businessmen and civil society leaders – is set for launching next week with the aim of mobilizing groups to help the people elect “pro-democracy” candidates for the May 2022 national elections.
The coalition, dubbed 1Sambayan, will be launched at the Makati Sports Club on March 18.
In a press statement, the coalition said it “strongly believes that the Philippines cannot afford to have another Duterte administration.”
The coalition said it will prepare the Filipino electorate for next year’s elections and “give them voice in choosing which candidates will run in the national polls.”
The alliance is expected to present a plan for the selection of “bankable alternative leaders with clear platforms to address the political, economic, security and health issues hounding the nation.”
