Pinay named Miss Eco Teen International
MANILA, Philippines — Roberta Angela Tamondong of the Philippines won the Miss Eco Teen International 2020 crown yesterday.
The pageant’s coronation night was held in Hurghada, Egypt.
Tamondong – who was appointed by the Miss World Philippines Organization to compete in the international pageant last month – bested 34 other contestants.
South Africa’s Jordan van Rensburh was named first runner-up, while the Netherlands’ Danielle Dolk was second runner-up.
“Social media is a very powerful tool that we use nowadays. It can be used as entertainment, communication to your loved ones, your family or your friends, and third is information,” Tamondong answered in the pageant’s question and answer portion.
“But more than that… social media can be a powerful change to use as information about what’s happening to the environment. And that’s my advocacy: spread awareness to the youth with regard to environmental issues via social media,” she added.
Prior to the Miss Eco International 2020 finals, Tamondong, an 18-year-old beauty queen from Laguna, bagged three pre-pageants: she was second runner-up in the talent competition, first runner-up in the Beach Wear Prime competition, and the top prize for the Best Eco Dress award.
Her winning dress, a modern Filipiniana made of plastic bags and rice sacks, was “In support to the banning of plastic in the country,” Tamondong said in an Instagram post. – PhilSTAR L!fe
