MANILA, Philippines — The STAR received close to P500,000 in donations yesterday from kindhearted donors following its announcement of a fund drive for typhoon-hit Cagayan Valley. The cash donations intended for immediate relief to families displaced by floods thus totaled P2.44 million.

Operation Damayan, The STAR’s philanthropic arm, has identified Tuguegarao City for the conduct of relief operations and assistance that would benefit more than 2,000 families.

Damayan has been actively conducting relief operations and providing medical assistance since it was founded in 1989. With the staunch support of STAR president and CEO Miguel Belmonte, Damayan has also conducted adopt-a-school projects as well as activities that promote care for the environment.

Among yesterday’s donors were the following: former House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., P200,000; LV-TGFHA, P100,000; MGB, P50,000; Florence Senido, P50,000; K.L., P30,000; Yoly Lim, P5,000. Damayan earlier received a P2-million donation from the Angelo King Foundation.

The Cagayan fund drive remains open to cash donations until Friday. Donations may be deposited to Philstar Daily Inc./Operation Damayan Metrobank Savings Account No. 151-7-15152422-9, and deposit slips emailed to [email protected]. Interested donors may also contact 8527-7902 to 15 local 194.
