MANILA, Philippines — Police officers and visitors at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame will have to wear face shields and not just face masks starting tomorrow.

Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan, PNP deputy chief for administration, imposed a “no face shield, no entry” policy at the camp in response to the growing number of COVID-19 infections among policemen.“We appeal to all to observe health protocols for the sake of everyone’s safety against the contagion,” Cascolan said in a statement.The policy will cover police officers and civilian personnel as well as visitors with transactions at the camp’s frontline service offices.

The curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. at Camp Crame will also remain in effect to limit the movement of personnel on duty.?Forty-one more police officers have contracted COVID-19. Of the number, seven are assigned in various offices at Camp Crame while 23 are from the units under the National Capital Region Police Office, three from Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and one each from the Western Visayas and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

The other six patients are from the administrative and operational support units.?PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said 2,798 personnel have been infected with COVID-19 as of Friday.?At least 2,900 other PNP members who showed symptoms of the virus or had interacted with COVID-19 patients are being monitored.

The death toll remains at 13 while 1,841 or 65.70 of the patients have recovered from the virus.
