Low-pressure area spotted off Cagayan
MANILA, Philippines — A brewing cyclone off Tuguegarao City, Cagayan is expected to bring rains over parts of Luzon early this week.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday said the low-pressure area was spotted at 540 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City.
It was forecast to develop into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours and would be locally named Carina.
The weather disturbance will bring scattered light to moderate and at times heavy rains over Cagayan Valley, Bicol and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon.
PAGASA warned residents of these areas against possible flooding and landslides during heavy and prolonged rain.
“Due to its proximity to land, tropical cyclone wind signals may be hoisted immediately in the initial severe weather bulletin once the cyclone develops into a tropical depression,” PAGASA said in an advisory issued at 11 a.m. Sunday.
PAGASA weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said the low-pressure area started to bring yesterday scattered rains and thunderstorms over the eastern section of Luzon, including Cagayan Valley and Aurora. and Quezon.
