MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved the resumption of operations of 980 UV Express units in Metro Manila and nearby provinces starting tomorrow.
The vehicles will ply 47 routes following the mass transport shutdown in March due to the coronavirus disease pandemic.
LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra said they are “not discounting” the possibility that they would deploy both modern and traditional jeepneys to augment mass transportation.
The resumption of operations of both UV Express and traditional jeepney units have long been anticipated after they were prohibited from operating since the second week of March.
Delgra said UV Express operators and drivers should comply with strict guidelines with the resumption of their operations.
He said UV Express operations should be on a strict terminal-to-terminal basis for pick up and drop off and they are not allowed to traverse EDSA and Commonwealth Avenue.
The LTFRB also stressed that fares would be retained at P2 per kilometer despite the limited capacity due to physical distancing.
Other provisions in the guidelines include the regular examination of drivers if they are fit to work and the mandatory wearing of masks and gloves at all times.
Commuters will also be required to wear masks and exact fare will be paid before boarding to minimize personal transactions, the board said.
Passengers will also fill out forms for contact-tracing purposes while barriers will be installed to seal off the driver’s compartment.
