MANILA, Philippines —  The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) placed yesterday the damage caused by Taal Volcano’s continuing unrest to national roads and bridges at P153.32 million.

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said Calbangan bridge and Laguile bridge were added to the list of bridges damaged by volcanic tremors. Each sustained P4.77 million in damage. The Calbangan bridge is located in Lemery, Batangas while the Laguile bridge is along the Lemery-Taal Diversion Road.

The DPWH previously reported that the eruption damaged at least five roads, including the Palico-Balayan-Batangas Road (P27 million); Lemery-Taal Diversion Road (P35.16 million); Diokno Highway (P41.62 million), and Tanauan-Talisay-Tagaytay Road (P4 million).

“To date, only the Talisay-Laurel-Agoncillo Road remains impassable due to damaged pavement and the lockdown imposed by the local government units (LGUs) of Laurel and Agoncillo towns,” it said.

In another development, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)’s Task Force Taal has provided at least 60 boxes of milk fish, dried fish and assorted relief goods to affected families.

The PCG said it also continues to install buoy markers in a bid to discourage residents from returning to Volcano Island, especially within the seven-kilometer danger zone.
