MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is hoping that traffic would not worsen this weekend as it expects the return of thousands who went to the province for the holidays.
MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said traffic remained light along EDSA as of yesterday.
She said her agency hopes that traffic would not be heavy today since people have until the weekend to head back to Manila from their respective provinces.
“So far traffic is very light on EDSA in both directions. We are anticipating influx of motorists and passengers tomorrow till Sunday,” Pialago said.
For the holidays, the MMDA suspended the number coding scheme for all vehicles from Dec. 23-25 and 30-31, 2019 to Jan. 1, 2020, and for provincial buses from Dec. 23-27 and 30-31, 2019 and Jan. 1-2, 2020.
“Traffic is not expected to be heavy tomorrow since motorists have the option of returning to Metro Manila on Friday or over the weekend,” she added.
