MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court (SC) has affirmed the conviction of Jason Ivler in connection with the killing of 27-year-old Renato Ebarle Jr in 2009.

In a two-page resolution, SC deputy clerk of court Teresita Aquino Tuazon said that Ivler has failed to present any evidence that would warrant any reversible error committed by the Court of Appeals (CA).

“After judicious study of the case, the court resolves to dismiss the appeal for failure to sufficiently show that the Court of Appeals committed any reversible error in the assailed decision as to warrant the exercise of the court’s appellate jurisdiction,” Tuazon said.

She said the SC “deems it proper to adjust the award of damages in favor of the heirs of Renato A. Ebarle Jr.”

Ivler will be sentenced to life in prison and pay Ebarle’s heirs about P10 million for civil indemnity, moral damages, exemplary damages and actual damages as compensation for loss of earning capacity.

Ivler, nephew of singer Freddie Aguilar, was charged with murder after he shot dead Ebarle in a road rage incident along Santolan Avenue in Quezon City on Nov. 18, 2009. Ebarle succumbed to three gunshot wounds.
