MANILA, Philippines — Filipino and American servicemen are gearing up for joint land-sea-air wargames dubbed “Kamandag” (Venom) to be held next week in some areas in Luzon and Palawan.

The military drills will involve amphibious operations, live-fire training, urban operations, aviation operations, counterterrorism response and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions at various training sites in Zambales and Palawan from Oct. 9 to 18.

Next week’s military exercises will also include low-altitude air defense and threat reaction training.

Last month, army forces from both countries conducted a para drop operation involving 5,000 soldiers in a scenario to retake an area from the air.

However, organizers did not specify if the Amphibious Assault Exercise will be launched from the sea along the shorelines of Zambales and Palawan.

“Kamandag” is a word coined by Filipino forces for “Kaagapay ng mga Mandirigma ng Dagat,” which translates to “Cooperation of Warriors of the Sea,” highlighting the partnership between the US and Philippine militaries. — Pia Lee-Brago
