MANILA, Philippines — Tropical depression Marilyn has entered the Philippine area of responsibility, although it is not expected to make landfall, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

Marilyn entered the country’s area at 9:30 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

It was moving west northwest at 25 kph.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the center of Marilyn was located 1,265 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

“Starting yesterday until this morning, the trough of the tropical depression will bring light to moderate rains and intermittent heavy rain showers over most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, the Visayas, Zamboanga peninsula, Bangsamoro Region, Northern Mindanao and Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos),” PAGASA said.

Residents, especially in flood- and landslide-prone areas, have been advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local oficials and monitor weather updates.

Sea travel is risky, especially for small vessels, in the central and eastern seaboards of the Visayas and the northern, eastern and southern seaboards of Mindanao due to rough sea condition.
