Duterte fires Pasig river rehab head
MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has sacked Jose Antonio Goitia, executive director of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC), following reports of alleged anomalies in the agency.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo made the announcement late yesterday afternoon while the Chief Executive was leading the awarding ceremonies for recipients of the 2019 Outstanding Government Workers in Malacañang.
“The Palace announces the termination of the appointment of Mr. Jose Antonio E. Goitia as the executive director of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission,” Panelo said.
He said Goitia’s termination was pursuant to the President’s continuing mandate to eradicate graft and corruption.
The move would also ensure that public officials and employees conduct themselves in a manner worthy of public trust.
“We advise Mr. Goitia to turn over all official documents, papers and properties in his possession to the Office of the Deputy Executive Director for finance and administrative services of the commission,” Panelo said.
Panelo maintained that Duterte has been consistent in fighting corruption in the government.
“We hope that this shall serve as another example that this administration does not – and will never – tolerate corrupt practices in the bureaucracy and in public service,” the Palace official said.
