'Liwayway' to bring rains over vast swaths of Philippines

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Liwayway, which is expected to develop into a tropical storm within 24 hours, will dampen large swaths of the country, weather forecasters said Monday.

“Liwayway” was last spotted 450 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte or 325 east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour and gusts of 70 kph.

It is heading north northwest at 25 kph.

Residents of Bicol region, Visayas, Northern Mindanao and CARAGA will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the effects of “Liwayway.”

PAGASA said that southwest monsoon will also bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.

“Liwayway” is not seen to hit any part of the Philippine landmass and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday.
