Meet Marvel’s new Pinay superhero

MANILA, Philippines — As part of Marvel’s 80th anniversary celebrations in the Philippines, The Walt Disney Company Philippines, together with SM Supermalls, welcomes Marvel’s new Filipina superhero, Wave.

Wave’s addition to the Marvel Universe will be celebrated at SM Seaside City Cebu today across gaming, comics and special merchandise.

Created by American film director and comic book writer Greg Pak and legendary Filipino comic book artist Leinil Francis Yu, Wave, also known as Pearl Pangan, is first seen in War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas.

Born in the Philippines, Pearl Pangan always showed an affinity for water and swimming from a very young age, becoming a champion swimmer with Olympic aspirations by high school. However, when AlonTech recruited her for swimming ability tests, she was accidentally exposed to an illegal biotech chemical. Now with telekinetic powers over water molecules, Pearl stands against all threats as the superhero Wave.

Heading to the Queen City of the South for Wave’s arrival at the Marvel 80 Years at SM celebration are Marvel Games senior producer in Asia Danny Koo and Wave’s co-creator Leinil Francis Yu. Both will be available for an autograph signing event with Marvel fans. Special edition Marvel 80th posters will also be available just for this event.

Marvel 80 Years at SM is a celebration of everything Marvel over the past eight decades, and will be celebrated throughout the year in select SM Supermalls nationwide.

Don’t miss out on the chance to celebrate Marvel’s 80th anniversary. Gather with fellow Filipino Marvel fans in more than 70 SM Supermalls nationwide for Marvel 80 Years at SM. Join the conversations online at #Marvel80atSM.
