MANILA, Philippines — The water level at Angat Dam reached the 180-meter minimum operating level Monday after weeks of rains brought by tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon.
The water elevation at Angat Dam—Metro Manila’s main water source—is now at 180.07 meters.
The latest reading is up by 1.44 meters from Sunday’s 178.63 meters.
The increase in the reservoir’s water level happened after Severe Tropical Storm Ineng left the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
PAGASA is monitoring a new low pressure area, which is seen to develop into a tropical depression within the day. Two to four tropical cyclones are expected to enter PAR this month.
Angat Dam breached its 160-meter critical level last July. This prompted the National Water Resources Board to slash the water allocation for Metro Manila's water concessionaires, resulting in rotational water service interruptions.
PAGASA earlier said Angat Dam might return to its operational state by September.
