MANILA, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Ineng (International name: Bailu) is now off to the southern coast of Pingtung County in Taiwan, staying on track to leave the country Saturday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.
In its 2 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal, or TCWS, over northern Abra had been lifted, but areas that remained under signal no. 2 are still warned to brace for strong winds.
The northernmost province of Batanes is still under signal no. 2. Signal no. 1 had been declared over Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), Apayao and Ilocos Norte.
Meanwhile, occasional gusty conditions will still prevail over most of Luzon and Western Visayas due to the southwest monsoon, or habagat.
"Ineng," which packs maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 125 kph, was spotted 185 km northwest of Basco, Batanes at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The weather disturbance brought heavy rains over northern parts of Luzon, causing floods that displaced residents in Laoag City, which has been placed under state of calamity.
