MANILA, Philippines — The Hong Kong International Airport authorities have started the implementation of strict security measures that allow entry only to legitimate passengers upon presention of passports, airline tickets or boarding passes.
The airline and airport employees were also required to present their airport permit and company identification cards before they are allowed to enter the airport.
An airline official told The STAR that this latest directive that took effect on Wednesday is part of increased security measures being implemented by the airport authority to control access into the HK airport premises that were taken over by pro-democracy protesters in the past days until the police have cleared the airport on Thursday.
All airport access points are manned by Hong Kong Aviation Security units and the local police together with airline staff and ground handling agents to assist in the screening of people entering the terminal.
In view of tightened security measures and access control into the passenger terminal building, HK Airport Authority has advised all airlines to cease ticket sales at Hong Kong International Airport.
