'Hanna' seen to develop into severe tropical storm within a day

MANILA, Philippines — Weather forecasters are expecting Tropical Storm Hanna (international name: Lekima) to intensify into a severe tropical storm within 24 hours.

The tropical storm now packs maximum sustained winds of up to 85 kph from the previous 75 kph and gusts of up to 105 kph from the previous 90 kph.

While it is seen to develop into a severe tropical storm within a day, “Hanna” remains less likely to make landfall on any part of the country.

No tropical cylone wind signal has been raised in any part of the country.

Residents of the northern portion of Palawan—including Calamian and Cuyo Islands—Mindoro provinces, Romblon and Western Visayas will experience moderate to heavy monsoon rains until Tuesday, PAGASA also said.

Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Bicol region, the rest of MIMAROPA and Visayas.

PAGASA warned those with small sea vessels not to venture out over the western seaboards of Northern Luzon and Central Luzon, the seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas, and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao due to “potentially rough sea condition.”
