MANILA, Philippines — More than two months after a cockroach interrupted his speech in Bohol, President Rodrigo Duterte was pestered Tuesday by flies during the launching of a livelihood program in Taguig.

Duterte was talking about his rift with Catholic priests during the launching of the 911 TESDA program when a fly landed on his forehead and on his left temple.

The president then shooed the fly and then joked that it was sent by the clergy.

"Kaya maski noon pa, talagang may away na ako sa pari. Kagaya nitong langaw na ito. Utos man nila ito (Even since, I already have a rift with priests. Just like this fly. They sent this)," Duterte said.

"Kanina pa ‘yan sunod nang sunod sa akin. Naligo naman ako, mga buang (It has been following me even if I took a bath, Crazies)," he added.

Duterte has been at odds with some Catholic bishops over his war on illegal drugs, which has left more than 5,000 people dead.

Bishops have expressed concern on the campaign and have called on the government to respect due process and human life.

Duterte, however, insisted that the bloody crackdown on drugs is needed to preserve the next generation and to curb criminality.

Last May, a cockroach landed on Duterte during a campaign rally of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan in Bohol.

The president claimed that the cockroach was sent by the opposition Liberal Party.

"Liberal na. Ay sigurado na o. Klaro kaayo sa likod (It's Liberal. That’s for sure. You can tell clearly by its back.)," the president said.
