MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) yesterday said it will start accepting the Philippine Postal Corp. (PhlPost) ID as a recognized document for passport applications starting next month.

Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs Neil Frank Ferrer and Assistant Postmaster General Luis Carlos signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the acceptance of PhlPost IDs as a valid ID for passport application last July 8.

In a statement, PhlPost said the agreement came after it came out with a software application that allows easy verification of PhlPost-issued IDs.

Among acceptable IDs for passport application are those issued by the Social Security System, Government Service Insurance System, Professional Regulatory Commission and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

Others are Unified Multi-Purpose Identification Cards, Land Transportation Office driver’s license, voter’s ID, firearms license, senior citizen ID, airman license and school ID.

For renewal of ePassports, a current valid ePassport is acceptable.

Applicants overseas, meanwhile, may use their host government issued IDs showing their Philippine citizenship such as residence cards.
