Students join quake drills
MANILA, Philippines — Public and private schools across the country joined the quarterly quake drills.
Like in previous drills, Education Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said the Department of Education (DepEd) directed schools to take part in the activity.
She had earlier said that drills are regularly being conducted in schools to ensure that students are prepared in case of a major earthquake.
Aside from drills, Education Secretary Leonor Briones had previously said the DepEd is focused on ensuring that school buildings can withstand strong typhoons and quakes.
The DepEd has ordered an inventory of schools after the strong tremors that hit Luzon and the Visayas in April.
