MANILA, Philippines — Detained Sen. Leila de Lima’s youngest son hurdled the 2018 bar exams.

Vincent Joshua Bohol is one of the 1,800 bar passers whose name was flashed at the Supreme Court front yard on Friday afternoon.

When Bohol finished his law degree from San Beda College Alabang, De Lima asked the court to allow her to be there.

Her motion read in part: “A family member’s graduation is regarded as a milestone event in every Filipino family. To be personally present in such a special occasion is more than a compelling duty on the part of the accused De Lima as a mother.”

But Muntinlupa court hearing the government’s drug case against her rejected her motion for furlough.

The court said: “Being charged with a crime punishable by life imprisonment, and non-bailable...accused De Lima cannot be given different treatment as that of other prisoners whose liberty is curtailed, pending the final resolution of their criminal cases.”

The judge also echoed the prosecution’s argument that De Lima’s presence will disrupt the commencement exercise for her son and the attendees.

De Lima is a lawyer herself and a product of the San Beda College of Law. She placed 8th in the 1985 bar examinations.
