MANILA, Philippines— The Manila Electric Company advised the public of scheduled power interruptions in several areas in Metro Manila and nearby provinces during Holy Week, from April 15 to 21.

Meralco released a list of scheduled power interruptions on its social media pages. It said there would be power outages due to maintenance operations in some areas in Metro Manila including nearby provinces such as Laguna, Bulacan, Cavite and Rizal. Meralco said it would upgrade some facilities and do line reconductoring and maintenance works in these areas.

On Saturday, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines placed the Luzon Grid under Yellow Alert due to insufficient operating reserve.

Meralco explained that the yellow alert means the reserve power is low.

It advised its clients including commercial establishments and corporations participating under the Interruptible Load Program to use generator sets to prevent or minimize incidents of power outages during supply deficiency.

Meralco said its clients can prevent power outages by following energy efficient practices like cleaning electric fan blades and airconditioning vents, unplugging appliances when not in use, and avoiding needlessly opening refrigerator doors.
