MANILA, Philippines — The 27-kilometer Cavite section of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) project has broken ground, led by Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar.

The segment forms part of the 45-kilometer CALAX toll road project that will reduce traffic congestion along Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway and Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road, and reduce travel time from Cavite Expressway to South Luzon Expressway by about 45 minutes.

“We are glad to announce that both the Cavite and Laguna segments are now under construction and are aimed for completion by 2020,” Villar said last Wednesday.

CALAX is a four-lane toll road project which starts from CAVITEX in Kawit, Cavite and ends at the SLEX-Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna with eight interchanges and one main toll barrier. It also has a bridge component of 12,207 meters inclusive of 4,618 meters of viaduct.

The Laguna segment which commenced in June 2017 involves the construction of an 18-kilometer new road from Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to the existing Mamplasan Interchange of SLEX in Biñan, Laguna.

The Cavite segment of CALAX, on the other hand, is nine kilometers longer than the Laguna segment and starts from CAVITEX connection in Kawit, Cavite to Silang Interchange.

The P35.425-billion CALAX project is being implemented by the private concessionaire MPCALA Holdings Inc. of the Metro Pacific Group under public-private partnership program of the government.
