PhlPost issues Aguinaldo commemorative stamps

In a statement, PHLPost chairman Norman Fulgencio said the stamps were unveiled at the historic Aguinaldo Mansion in Kawit, Cavite where a simple ceremony was held in honor of the country’s first president, who was born on March 22, 1869.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) yesterday issued a stamp commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of former president Emilio Aguinaldo.

In a statement, PHLPost chairman Norman Fulgencio said the stamps were unveiled at the historic Aguinaldo Mansion in Kawit, Cavite where a simple ceremony was held in honor of the country’s first president, who was born on March 22, 1869.

Fulgencio presented the commemorative Aguinaldo stamps frame to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, who represented President Duterte at the event.

The commemorative stamp features the illustration of Aguinaldo in P12 denomination and the souvenir sheet to be sold at P55 each.

PHLPost in-house artist Rodine Teodoro designed the two denominations of the stamp.

The postal agency printed 50,000 pieces of the stamps. They are already available for sale to the public.

Aguinaldo served as the country’s president for two years – from Jan. 23, 1899 to March 23, 1901.

Duterte recently issued Presidential Proclamation No. 621 declaring March 22 as Emilio Aguinaldo Day.

Duterte said Aguinaldo symbolizes the desire of the nation to be self-reliant, independent and free from oppression.
