MANILA, Philippines —   President Duterte has vowed to fire more officials in the next days over corruption.

“Just wait, there will be more officials who will have to be fired because of corruption,” the President said at the campaign rally of the Partidong Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) senatorial candidates at the Queen Isabela Park in Ilagan City, Isabela the other night. He did not name the officials.

The President emphasized the importance of law and order and of getting rid of graft and corruption for the country to move forward and catch up with its more developed and progressive neighbors.

“And I will be firing another set of officials. I’m sorry,” he said. “Now, if you want to help me run the government and my program. You know, I’m the only President now,” Duterte added.

The President has been saying that aside from curbing corruption, eliminating illegal drugs is his administration’s main thrust.

The President had already fired several officials, including those who had helped in his campaign in 2016.

Meanwhile, the President also vowed to place more lands under land reform, including some areas in Boracay and Sagay. He said he has instructed the Department of Agrarian Reform to make sure Aetas benefit from any distribution of lands in Boracay.
