PNP recalls use of new rank classification
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has put on hold the use of its new rank classification in all its communications pending the issuance of implementing rules and regulations (IRR) for Republic Act 11200, which standardizes the way police officers are called.
Although the PNP started using the new rank classification last Feb. 28, PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde issued an order last Thursday to hold its use in abeyance until after the IRR is released.
Deputy Director General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, the chief directorial staff, explained the law would only become effective 15 days after its publication by the Malacañang Records Office, which would be on March 10.
“After that, the chief PNP will come up with the necessary IRR within 30 days,” Cascolan said in a phone interview.
PNP spokesman Senior Supt. Bernard Banac said the IRR would “specify the policies, proper abbreviations and their usage in written communications.”
In the meantime, the PNP will use its old rank classifications in all its communications.
