MANILA, Philippines — Nearly P900 million worth of cocaine bricks have been recovered near the country’s shoreline since February, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

PNP spokesman Col. Bernard Banac said about 168.73 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of P892.84 million were retrieved since Feb. 10.

The last was on March 3 in Baler, Aurora where a kilo of cocaine worth P5 million was recovered.

The biggest seizure was in Dinagat Islands last Feb. 12, where 48.82 kilos of cocaine worth P258 million were recovered. It was followed by 40 kilos of cocaine worth P212 million in San Isidro, Surigao del Norte on Feb. 14.

Banac said they continue to keep tabs on the activities in the country’s shorelines, especially on the eastern seaboard where all of the blocks of cocaine were retrieved.

PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde earlier said they are not discounting the possibility that more blocks of cocaine could be retrieved.

He cited a report last year that said some 500 kilos of cocaine were dropped at sea from a ship while traversing the Pacific Ocean near the Solomon

Islands. He said the boar could have capsized or the cargo deliberately thrown overboard.
