MANILA, Philippines — The Senate Blue Ribbon committee is eyeing an investigation into the fire that gutted a Bureau of Customs building last week.
Sen. Richard Gordon, the panel’s chair, said this in a release Friday.
“We are considering investigating the issue but we are still studying it and gathering data and evidence,” Gordon said.
He added: “The Blue Ribbon committee can conduct investigations when warranted even if Congress is on recess.”
The 10-hour fire razed the Port of Manila building last Friday night, destroying P50 million worth of equipment and property.
The blaze destroyed the third and fourth floor of the building. The first and second floors were not affected by the fire but documents and equipment were drenched in water when the firefighters put out the flames.
Customs Commissioner Rey Guerrero earlier ordered the bureau’s intelligence group, and intelligence and investigation service to determine the cause of the fire. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
