MANILA, Philippines — Comedian Arnell Ignacio has resigned from his post as Overseas Workers Welfare Administrtion (OWWA) deputy administrator.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III yesterday confirmed that Ignacio tendered his resignation over a week ago.

“He personally handed to me the resignation letter a little over a week ago citing personal reasons,” Bello said in an interview.

Ignacio confided to Bello the real reason for his resignation, but he cannot disclose it out of confidentiality.

Bello said he was not aware if President Duterte has already accepted Ignacio’s resignation.

The STAR tried to contact Ignacio, but he was not available for comment as of last night.

Duterte appointed Ignacio as deputy administrator over a year ago.

Ignacio, whose full name is Arnaldo Arevalo Ignacio, was one of Duterte’s supporters from the entertainment industry for his presidential bid in 2016.

He was previously tapped by Duterte as assistant vice president for the community relations and services department of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
